
Capt. (Rtd) Dr. Simiyu Werunga
Capt. (Rtd) Dr Simiyu Werunga is a retired military helicopter fighter pilot and an accomplished expert in Public Security and Safety. He has several qualifications in Public Safety and Security, Counter-terrorism studies, Disaster Preparedness, Strategic Military Analysis, International Security and Global Power balance. He has, amongst other qualifications, a Master of Science in peace Studies and a PhD in International Security $ Strategic Studies. He has two fellowships from China Foreign Affairs University-Beijing and one other fellowship from Danish Fellowship Centre-Denmark.
He also holds a Certificate in Ebola Virus Disease Awareness and Precautions for Peacekeeping Personnel from UN Peace Operations Training Institute and a Certificate in Preparing and Responding to Active Shooter Incidents from the UNDSS-United Nations Department of Safety & Security
He is currently undertaking a Masters in Intelligence and Security at Leicester University-UK. He has done and continues to do Regional work in Hostile Environments and abroad in furtherance of his expertise in the field.
Capt. Simiyu is the Co-Founder of the Centre for Security Studies and Diplomacy-KCA University. He is also the Director-General of the African Centre for Security and Strategic Studies; he is the Chairperson of the Kenya Association of Security Professionals and the Director of Shapiro Technologies Ltd-a security solutions company. He is a Member of the International Institute for Strategic Studies-IISS, UK; He is a member of the International Association of Professionals in Humanitarian Assistance and Protection (PHAP)-Geneva, Switzerland
Capt. Simiyu is a leading security consultant and trainer on National and International security issues, public safety and security and Security sector Reforms having been the team leader in training SSR courses at the International Peace Support Training Centre (IPSTC), Eastern Africa Standby Force Command (EASF) and participated in running SSR course at the Rwanda Peace Academy (RPA) for eight years. He is a training member of community of practice with the International Security Sector Advisory Team (ISSAT), Switzerland.
He continues with his Trainings, Advisories, and security consulting to and for leading institutions, organisations, and Governments. He served as a member of the National Police Vetting Board, and as a member of the National Task Force on Community Policing of Kenya. He has undertaken Research study works on terrorism, armed groups, and Militias in Africa for the Forum of Parliaments (FP) for the International Conference on the great lakes region (ICGLR) and insecurity in Mandera, Laikipia and the Kapedo triangle for the Government of Kenya amongst other research works in the country and the region. He continues to provide advisories, consultancies and trainings to various organisations, bodies, leading Institutions and to local and International media houses in the region and globally.
He is the Founding Director of East African Institute of Security Studies (EAISS)
